Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)
Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes dry, itchy and inflamed skin. It can vary in severity from mild intermittent flares to more persistent or severe disease that significantly affects sleep, quality of life and daily functioning.
Symptoms of eczema
Eczema commonly presents with dry, red and itchy patches of skin. The itch is often the most distressing symptom and can lead to scratching, skin breakdown and secondary infection. The condition may affect different areas of the body depending on age and severity, commonly involving the face, neck, flexural areas of the arms and legs, and hands. Flare-ups may be triggered by environmental factors, irritants, infections, stress or changes in temperature and humidity.

Management of eczema
